Strength of Values

Strength of Values was an Art Call for the City of Langley to reflect the community values, diversity, and inclusivity of the people of the City of Langley They wanted street banners that drew inspiration from our local community, reflecting the character and charm of the City of Langley and the City’s commitment to promoting active, healthy lifestyles through arts, culture, and recreation. The artwork should be simple, bold, and easily visible from street level.

My solution was to create a piece that reflects the awakening of spring using green for new growth, pink for budding blossoms and blue for clear skies. The strength and resiliency of the tree stretching its limbs toward the sky represent safe and reliable infrastructure transporting the community’s vibrancy to greater heights. The single art piece can be divided into two banners as public art and can still be adapted in many ways as demonstrated in the mock-ups below.

The at-a-glance Project Request:

It needed to reflect some or all of the City vision/description for the artwork along with the community values, diversity, and inclusivity of the people of the City of Langley

Vivid, vibrant, and contrasting spring shades with adequate light and dark separation for legibility in low-light conditions
Artwork should be bold and easily distinguishable from a distance.
Fewer colours per design are preferred, with most designs utilizing two to three colours.
Please limit the use of yellows and oranges; avoid pastels as they fade quickly.
