Art Installations at the Hotel Le Soleil Vancouver

Lindsey was the assistant superintendent during the construction of Hotel Le Soleil in Vancouver. She worked with renowned interior designer Louis de Araujo, Jani Szabo of Renaissance Surface Designs, and many other international artists and designers to oversee and manage the completion of the hotel’s interior spaces. Every room captivates visitors with its magnificent decor and original artwork. Since its opening, Hotel Le Soleil has earned its position as a boutique, four-diamond property (AAA) and continues to be recognized as one of Canada’s top 25 most luxurious hotels.

Celestial Harmony, the glorious installation at Hotel Le Soleil’s restaurant (currently Alouette Bistro), was created by artists who endeavored to encapsulate the microcosm and macrocosm of existence. The central sunburst symbolizes the life-giving force that radiates throughout our universe, while the surrounding spheres represent the myriad forms this energy manifests into Earth’s bounty. Celestial Harmony serves as a silent witness to our shared reality, reminding us that we are both observers and participants in this intricate tapestry of life.

This piece was created by a team of two artists working on-site from scaffolding over three weeks. The process involved using a variety of layered gyprock, construction paper, and drywall mud to form an industrial papier-mâché that could be sanded and manipulated into its final form. The final piece was primed and hand-painted. Other artworks include the glass sculptures installed on the ceiling, hand-painted wallpaper, and custom welded in-place steel vines on the banister.
